Prints

My approach to printmaking is to pare down the essence of a composition and investigate what is important to include/communicate. They have a relationship to my paintings, but the print process creates a different response to the subject matter.

I make screen prints, primarily using cut paper stencils and have always been interested in pattern, layering colour and abstracting familiar shapes, looking for relationships between objects and the spaces in between.

I particularly love the spontaneity and risk of the unknown with mono-prints, each one is unique and there’s sometimes a bit of magic as the image emerges!

Oryoki Bowl Series

Unique ‘one off’ mono prints, created using a combination of cut paper stencil layers and direct painting onto the silk-screen.

This series of prints were influenced by the concept of Oryoki (the Japanese name for a begging bowl used by Zen monks) which translates as ‘just enough’  I was mindful of accepting when the image said just enough.
